Katie is a sports enthusiast passionate about people & storytelling.
She grew up in the small town of Delano, Minnesota as an only girl in the middle of 6 hockey boys. Her childhood consisted of running around cold hockey rinks and spending family weekends in hotels and arena locker rooms for tournaments. Katie played hockey herself, but in 4th grade after 3 years of speed skating and several hockey clinics and camps, she made the decision to do something that would separate her from her six brothers and play basketball, a sport that the boys couldn’t critique her at.
She was a competitive 3 sport athlete from that time on, playing volleyball, softball and basketball in high school with a couple of years of lacrosse and soccer as well. After graduation, Katie had planned to play softball, but a last minute switch in plans led her to the Women’s Basketball team at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo. While she loved competing, the tuition became too much to bear. She eventually made the difficult decision to retire the jerseys, skates, cleats and catchers mitts and commit to a career in Sports Broadcasting. Katie made the trek back to her home state of Minnesota and transferred to St. Cloud State University.
At SCSU is where Katie would begin to discover her passion for storytelling, she fell in love with broadcast journalism in her first year working for the Husky Hockey Men’s and Women’s teams. Katie worked as the Rink Side Reporter & In-Studio Host for St. Cloud State Hockey alongside an award-winning student crew, Husky Productions. The live games aired on Fox Sports North in the Greater Minneapolis-St.Paul area with Katie between the glass for every intermission interview, and also in the studio for intermission reports covering highlights and stats.
Katie loves people. She considers herself an outgoing individual and when she drinks coffee, she’s outgoing times 10. In addition, she loves to multi-task and stay busy, which in her words might have something to do with growing up in a family of 9.
Katie graduated from St. Cloud State University in August of 2018. She works at NBC Sports Philadelphia as the Philadelphia Flyers Live Pre & Post-Game Host.
